I would have never guessed that you could stack 30,000 pound rocks, but you do!

“You too can own a piece of Franklin County from 10,000 BC”
A little known fact is that in Franklin County between Purley and Mt. Vernon there is a natural outcropping of giant rocks. When I say giant rocks I mean many between 3000 lbs and 30,000lbs. I was born and raised in Mt. Vernon and until 2006 never knew of this natural phenomenon. Even though my son and I had built a 12ft by 24ft waterfall in 2004 of rocks (I later found out had their origin in this same rock field) I really did not understand the concept of this rock field. To stand in this field and study these beautiful rocks is truly a sight to behold.
Then when I think that these rocks had lived only four miles from where my Dad was born and I was raised I am truly amazed. Now I have been around the world including the jungles of Panama, Ayers Rock in Australia, Mountains in Southeast Asia etc, etc. and of course Colorado, but to find these giant rocks here is humbling to this country boy.
When I am building with these rock folk always ask where I got the rocks. When I tell them where they came from the folk then ask how they got there. My answer is always “I guess God put them there”. I think many were taken for the original base of the Dam for Lake Cypress Springs.
